Diabetes and Me

I'm Sarah. Kicking diabetes' ass since 1993. Or it's kicking me. Some days, I'm not really sure.

Feel free to send me a message about anything, whether it's asking, complaining, explaining or whatever. You're more than welcome.

Sadie said “(d) ocTOR!” today when I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up.
The doctor set has been her favorite toy for a year and I recently upgraded her set after we lost the stethoscope, favorite part.
After she gave her baby Max Bloom a shot in the eye (the toy eye is broken and she thinks she can fix it), she lifted up her shirt and gave herself a shot in the belly. I do this multiple times a day because I have type one diabetes. She loves when I check my blood sugar. She watches me draw the blood and waits to see the number. Then she runs away.
It’s wild to me, the things she understands at 22 months old. I can’t wait until she’s 3–she’ll probably be administering me insulin by then.

I hope the OP doesn’t mind that I reblog this, but it makes me SO happy to see positive posts about parenting with diabetes. Sadie is absolutely adorable. :)

Today at work a little boy asked me if I was wearing a pump and I said yeah how do you know what that is and he said because he’s t1d too and I high fived him. Then a guy asked that it was okay my site was on my arm and I was like yes how do you know what that is and he said he was a firefighter and knows another firefighter that’s t1d as well. I’m feeling less and less like a freak knowing other people know my pump keeps me alive rather than a cell phone!

A long while ago (quite possibly a year and a half ago) I literally bought a Bayer Contour USB tester just so I could make a duct tape tester case for a friend. Wellllll, I just found the tester tucked away yesterday. My plan originally was to make the case for her and then…

Dude now I want to get this meter like now

GAH. I can’t wait for the test strips to come. I’m strangely excited to use it! By the by, I don’t know where you are from, but I think I got it for only ten dollars at Walmart Pharmacy… Just if you wanted to know…

Wellllll, I just found the tester tucked away yesterday. My plan originally was to make the case for her and then sell the tester on ebay.

But I just bought test strips on ebay for this thing and I’m wicked excited, because not only are they cheaper than the test strips for the tester I have now, but I’ve heard such good reviews about this tester and I’m kind of excited!

If you have this tester, what are all your thoughts on it? I’m still charging mine, so I haven’t gotten to play with it yet…

AND THIS TESTER HAS A SETTING THAT YOU CAN PUSH AFTER YOU TEST THAT SAYS “DON’T FEEL RIGHT”!! GAH! AWESOME!

The worst thing you can do to a person with an invisible illness is make them feel like they need to prove how sick they are.
